ABSTRACT In this work we used several different lectins to determine the glycidic components that appear in the prismatic intestinal epithelium of teratomas along the development. These tumoral masses show structures derived from the three blastodermic layers and usually present transdifferentiative processes. Many authors have reported glycoproteic changes in malignant processes of the colonic epithelium, attending to many environmental influences, but the development of this kind of tumour does not appear to be influenced by these factors. The present data show that many of the glycidic components expressed in the prismatic intestinal epithelium of teratomas are very similar to those observed in this mucosa in both tumoral and inflammatory disease.
